Speaker: Sherry Campbell with Welcome Home

Welcome Home's mission is to create a community of hope, healing and compassion for those facing a serious illness or death and need safe shelter.  We opened in 2015 and have served 140 individuals since.  In 2020, we purchased almost five acres with three buildings in east Chattanooga.  We have renovated the three buildings into a 4-bedroom hospice home and two 3-bedroom homes for cancer respite.  We now have a growing graduate program, currently following 12 individuals living new lives in new homes.  For our community, we have Demystifying Death.  This includes a monthly lecture series, a six-week course and an all day conference as well as advanced directive workshops.  We believe that providing people the opportunity to learn and talk about death, dying and grief will help them feel more comfortable when faced with it themselves.

Sherry Campbell, LMSW, is the Founding Director of Welcome Home of Chattanooga. She received her BSW at UTC in 1991 and an MSW from Southern Adventist University in 2011. Most of her social work career has been in hospice care; she has also worked in geriatrics, mental health and with agencies addressing homelessness. Along with a colleague, she founded Welcome Home in 2013 to address a need she saw while working for a local hospice- shelter for those with a terminal illness and nowhere to go for end of life care. She believes it is important to be a lifelong learner and maintains an egalitarian approach in her practice. Sherry is a member of the National Healthcare for the Homeless and the National Association for Social Workers (NASW) and serves on several area health planning committees. At Welcome Home, she serves as a field instructor for Schools of Social Work at several local colleges and universities which she enjoys very much. In her free time, Sherry enjoys concerts, gardening and being with her family. Some very special people call her Nana.
